Increased Traffic and Border Crossing Delays Expected Due to Summer Vacations

Traffic intensity on roads outside urban areas in North Macedonia has increased, and delays are expected at border crossings due to the start of summer vacations.

The Automobile Association of Macedonia (AMSM) is advising drivers to adjust their speed and exercise caution, particularly on roads passing through valleys and gorges, where landslides are possible.

At the Tabanovce border crossing, travelers can expect to wait approximately 40 minutes to enter North Macedonia. At the Bogorodica border crossing, the waiting time to exit the country is around 20 minutes. No delays are reported at other border crossings on the Macedonian side.

To manage traffic during the summer months, a restriction is in place for heavy goods vehicles exceeding 15 tons from July 1 to August 31. This ban applies on Fridays from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. During periods of extremely high temperatures, as determined by the Ministry of Health, the ban will also be enforced from Monday to Thursday between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Exemptions to the heavy goods vehicle ban include vehicles transporting animals, flowers, humanitarian aid, grain and cereals, perishable goods, oil and petroleum products, dangerous goods, and those involved in state road project execution. The AMSM urges all drivers to respect traffic regulations and drive carefully.
