Increased Road Traffic and Border Crossing Delays Reported in North Macedonia

Increased traffic intensity on roads outside urban areas is causing delays at border crossings in North Macedonia, particularly at Tabanovce and Pelince, where waiting times are approximately 45 minutes. The increase is attributed to the summer holidays.

At other border crossings on the Macedonian side, there are currently no significant delays for entry and exit.

The Automotive Association of Macedonia (AMSM) advises drivers to adjust their speed, adhere to traffic signals, and exercise caution, especially on roads passing through valleys, river valleys, and gorges, where landslides are possible. Specific sections of concern include Katlanovo – Veles, Mavrovo – Debar – Struga, Vinica – Berovo, and Kochani – Delchevo.

A summer traffic regime is in effect from July 1 to August 31, restricting the movement of heavy goods vehicles weighing over 15 tons on state roads during weekends and periods of extremely high temperatures. The restrictions are as follows: Fridays from 17:00 to 22:00, Saturdays from 09:00 to 18:00, and Sundays from 09:00 to 22:00.

During days with extremely high temperatures, as determined by the Ministry of Health, the ban will also be in effect from Monday to Thursday between 11:00 and 17:00.

Exemptions to the restriction include vehicles transporting animals, flowers, humanitarian aid, grain and cereals, perishable goods, oil and petroleum products, dangerous goods, and vehicles involved in projects on state roads contracted with PE for State Roads.

On the A2 highway section between Skopje and Ohrid, heavy goods vehicles exceeding 7.5 tons are prohibited during weekends until September 1: Fridays from 15:00 to 22:00.
