Healthcare Sector Sees Increase in Lowest Salaries

The lowest salary in the healthcare sector has increased to just over 27,000 denars due to a linear increase of 2,500 denars, according to the director of the Health Insurance Fund, Sasho Klekovski. This growth in the lowest healthcare salaries has occurred over the past five years.

In 2020, the lowest salaries in healthcare, specifically for positions such as cleaners or janitors, started at just under 15,000 denars, reaching 18,000 denars in 2022. This increase has brought the lowest salary in public healthcare to approximately 27,000 denars, which is higher than the national minimum wage. Director Klekovski believes this increase helps restore dignity to healthcare workers, given that salaries in the sector have been relatively low compared to neighboring countries.

This linear increase is the result of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Health, the Health Insurance Fund, and trade unions, which will continue in the future. Efforts will also be made to consolidate the number of collective agreements in healthcare, currently totaling 15.

The Minister of Health, Arben Taravari, stated that the linear increase has brought the average salary in public healthcare to 50,200 denars and affirmed the commitment to further salary growth.
