Greta Thunberg is currently in Skopje, North Macedonia, to participate in discussions and protests concerning social and environmental issues. The prominent eco-activist announced her presence via an Instagram video, detailing her planned activities.
Thunberg is scheduled to attend a public discussion at the “Dunja” Social Center, focusing on “Stop the War Machine: The Fight Against Imperialism and Capitalist Wars.” The discussion aims to connect global conflicts with the broader climate crisis, a perspective Thunberg emphasizes.
Furthermore, Thunberg plans to join a protest blockade aimed at protecting the Doshnica River on Mount Kozuf. This protest underscores her commitment to environmental preservation and highlights local environmental concerns in North Macedonia.
In her address, Thunberg drew a direct link between the situation in Gaza and the climate crisis, asserting that both stem from a shared system of exploitation and prioritizing profit over human life. She criticized the Macedonian Parliament’s recent decision against sending humanitarian aid to Gaza, urging solidarity and collective resistance.
Prior to arriving in Skopje, Thunberg visited Tetovo, where she observed the ongoing renovation of the Socio-Cultural Center, a project supported by volunteers and international partners. Before North Macedonia, Thunberg participated in a protest in Tirana, Albania, where she demanded an immediate end to the Israeli siege of Gaza and voiced strong condemnation.
