Government Initiatives Aim to Expand Air Travel Options

The government, under the leadership of VMRO-DPMNE, is actively pursuing the expansion of air traffic by attracting new airlines and establishing new flight routes, with the goal of enhancing competition at domestic airports. These efforts have already led to tangible outcomes in the aviation sector.

Within a few months, the current administration has facilitated numerous destinations from the country’s two main airports, invested in air traffic infrastructure, and fostered more competitive travel options and new destinations for travelers.

Several new flight routes have already been introduced, including Skopje to Paris (Orly Airport) and Ohrid to Istanbul. The Skopje-Amsterdam route has also been reinstated after a 12-year hiatus.

Furthermore, a new charter flight from Germany will bring at least 200 tourists to Macedonia daily, even outside the peak tourist season, contributing to a consistent influx of visitors.

Additional routes are planned, such as Skopje to Geneva (starting November 3, 2025) and Skopje to Paris (Orly Airport) commencing April 2, 2025.

Agreements have previously been finalized for routes including Ohrid to Istanbul, Ohrid to Basel Mulhouse, Skopje to Dubai, Skopje to Stuttgart, Skopje to Lyon, and Skopje to Barcelona.

Ongoing negotiations aim to establish a new Skopje to Prague route, along with the potential for a new Ohrid to Karlovy Vary route.

Beyond the establishment of new routes, expansion is underway at Ohrid Airport, including the construction of a new terminal building and the reconstruction of the administrative building.

These initiatives are geared towards enhancing the quality of life for Macedonian citizens, improving the flow of goods and services, and stimulating investment and economic development.
