Foreign Minister Discusses Bilateral Relations, Support, and Regional Security

Foreign Affairs Minister Timcho Mutsunski spoke about bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Greece, support after the Kochani tragedy, regional stability and security, and shared priorities within NATO in an interview.

Mutsunski highlighted the tragedy in Kochani as a difficult event and expressed gratitude to the Greek government and people for their support, including providing care in Greek hospitals for evacuated patients. He emphasized that such support reflects the true friendship between the two countries.

Regarding bilateral relations, Mutsunski noted the meeting with his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, in September 2024 as a significant step in strengthening diplomatic engagement. He mentioned the potential for expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, energy connectivity, economy, and culture. He also encouraged business partnerships, tourism, student exchanges, and cultural programs to further connect the two nations.

Mutsunski emphasized North Macedonia’s commitment to maintaining excellent relations with all its neighbors, highlighting the importance of this cooperation as demonstrated by the Kochani tragedy.

Concerning the geopolitical situation and NATO partnership, the minister stressed the importance of unity among allies in the face of increasing security challenges. He affirmed NATO’s central role in ensuring security for both countries and the wider Euro-Atlantic area, emphasizing that unity, collective defense, resilience, and deterrence are key to protecting member states. He also acknowledged the United States as a key ally and strategic partner.

Mutsunski also discussed the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague, where member states will assess the current situation and address key issues such as defense investments, support for Ukraine, regional partnerships, and strategic challenges.
