Foreign Minister Discusses Bilateral Relations, Regional Security, and NATO Priorities

Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Timcho Mucunski spoke about bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Greece, regional stability and security, support after the tragedy in Kochani, and common challenges and priorities within NATO in an interview with the Greek daily newspaper “Ta Nea”.

Mucunski highlighted the importance of unity among allies within NATO, especially in the face of increased security challenges, and emphasized the importance of the partnership between North Macedonia and Greece, particularly in times of crisis such as the tragedy in Kochani. He expressed gratitude to the Greek government and people for their support, including providing care in Greek hospitals for those evacuated.

Mucunski noted the potential for expanding cooperation with Greece in trade, infrastructure, energy connectivity, economy, and culture. He pointed to his meeting with Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis in September 2024 as a significant step in strengthening diplomatic engagement. He advocated for encouraging business partnerships, tourism, student exchanges, and cultural programs to foster closer ties between the two nations.

The Minister assessed that North Macedonia is committed to maintaining excellent relations with all its neighbors. He also addressed the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague, where member countries will discuss investments in defense, support for Ukraine, regional partnerships, and strategic challenges. He affirmed the crucial role of NATO in ensuring security for both countries and the wider Euro-Atlantic area, emphasizing the importance of collective defense, resilience, and deterrence. He also emphasized the USA remains a key ally and strategic partner.
