SDSM accuses the director of the State Environmental Inspectorate of defending those responsible for the environmental disaster instead of protecting citizens’ health. The party claims Ivana Ginovska displayed misinformation and ignorance, misrepresenting the levels of cyanide and lead in Kriva Reka. According to SDSM, Ginovska understated the cyanide concentration, claiming it was only two times the allowed level when it was allegedly 14 times higher. They also state that the lead concentration is 10 times above the permitted level.
SDSM highlights that the water in Kriva Reka is now classified as fifth class due to lead contamination, making it unsuitable for any use. They express concern over Ginovska’s admission that inspectors on duty after the Toranica River tailings overflow had close ties to the Bulmak mine, with one being a former employee and the other’s wife working there. They also question the appropriateness of former managers and employees of “Bulmak 2016” controlling the mine.
The party demands answers from Ginovska and the government regarding compensation for farmers who use the contaminated water for irrigation along the Toranica, Kriva Reka, Pchinja, and Vardar rivers. They also question whether the government prioritized campaign funds over citizens’ health by allegedly selling out to Nikolaj Volkanov.
SDSM asserts that VMRO-DPMNE, its coalition partners, and business associates under Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski are defending criminal activity and the poisoning of citizens. They conclude by stating that all those responsible should be held accountable in court for endangering the health of thousands and for allegedly lying about the dangers of the environmental damage in Palanets.
