The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has strongly criticized Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the government’s plan to implement an electronic census in 2026, alleging it is a nationalist agenda designed to exclude Albanians. DUI asserts that the new government is using institutions under its control to implement this plan. The party vowed to resist the census with all democratic means.
DUI’s reaction referenced Mickoski’s previous public dispute of the 2022 census results, which indicated that Albanians comprise 29.5% of the population. DUI claims Mickoski promised to organize an electronic census to “correct” the results once in power, viewing this as a political message aimed at marginalizing Albanians.
DUI further alleges that the Constitutional Court, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and other bodies are actively supporting this agenda. According to DUI, these bodies are abolishing the Balancer, dismantling mechanisms that protect against majoritarianism, excluding the Albanian language, and systematically marginalizing Albanians in administration, security services, and the army.
The party also criticized the Vredi coalition for allegedly legitimizing VMRO-DPMNE’s policies through silence and support. DUI argues that Vredi is creating a false image of multi-ethnicity in the government while Albanians are being subjected to “digital engineering.”
DUI concluded with a message to citizens, stating that attempts to marginalize Albanians will not succeed. The party affirmed that Albanians will defend their voice, place, and dignity in the country.
