An initiative led by Orce Gjorgjievski, President of ZELS, in collaboration with the National and University Library “St. Clement of Ohrid” – Skopje, will distribute copies of the “Orthography of the Macedonian Language” to all primary schools throughout the country. This action aims to improve the teaching process, elevate students’ linguistic culture, and preserve the Macedonian language as a vital component of national identity.
The initiative follows the discovery of 2,600 undistributed copies of the second edition of the Orthography within the National and University Library’s depositories. These copies, intended for public institutions, lectureships, and libraries domestically and abroad, had been stored inadequately for seven years. A meeting between President Gjorgjievski and the Library’s director, Jovica Nikchevski, led to a resolution to address this neglect and ensure that all schools receive the Orthography for educational use and to promote the Macedonian language.
President Gjorgjievski expressed gratitude to Director Nikchevski for his dedication to preserving valuable national works, noting the edition would soon be available to students. He emphasized that the Macedonian language is a priceless treasure and the foundation of their identity.
The National and University Library will provide 1,000 copies to ZELS for distribution to all primary schools in Macedonia, covering 950 central and regional schools. The remaining copies will be distributed to other institutions as originally intended.
