ZELS, mayors, and the Minister of Internal Affairs convened to discuss systemic solutions for preventing and detecting forest fires and floods early, focusing on improved institutional coordination and concrete preventative steps.

ZELS President Orce Gjorgjievski stressed the importance of preventative measures by local governments, highlighting the need for continuous coordination between institutions to reduce the risk of these disasters. He stated that local governments should focus on maintaining riverbeds and atmospheric channels and creating firebreaks in forest areas, while also mentioning assurances of strengthened fire brigade capacities.

Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski underscored the importance of deploying all available equipment and identifying critical areas needing immediate state intervention. He also announced plans to increase crisis response capabilities, including ensuring aircraft readiness for the approaching season.
