Prosecutors are seeking detention for four newly suspected individuals in connection with the Kochani fire. Seven others face house arrest coupled with a ban on communication, while precautionary measures are requested for an additional seven. One suspect is currently abroad.
Republic Public Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski announced that the investigation now includes a total of 47 individuals and three legal entities. The scope encompasses owners, managers, pyrotechnics users, and security personnel associated with the club.
The investigation has broadened to include officials who allegedly permitted the “Puls” cabaret to operate hospitality services without adhering to legal mandates. This includes former officials such as three mayors of Kochani, as well as three authorized municipal construction inspectors accused of neglecting inspections at the facility. The building had been illegally converted from a light industry facility into a cabaret for years without meeting safety standards.
Within the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, the investigation has been extended to three more directors, including the current director, in addition to the previously suspected director. They are suspected of neglecting their responsibilities regarding this club and others nationwide.
According to Kocevski, these individuals allegedly failed to conduct observation, monitoring, and inspection supervision of hospitality service facilities over the years.
In addition to the suspected Minister of Economy, the State Secretary, and three officials, three former Ministers of Economy, two former State Secretaries, and three additional officials in management positions responsible for hospitality and tourism during the club’s operation are now under suspicion. They are being investigated for allegedly enabling “Puls” to illegally obtain licenses from its opening until the fire.
The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kochani confirmed the expanded investigation into 19 new individuals regarding the fire at the “Puls” discotheque. All suspects are accused of Serious Crimes against General Security under Article 292 in connection with Article 288 of the Criminal Code.
