Decreasing River Levels and Potential for Increase in Western Regions

The country’s rivers are experiencing decreased water levels, including the Vardar River along its entire course, a trend expected to continue until the day’s end, according to the CMC. However, rainfall is anticipated later in the evening and overnight, primarily in the western regions, with rainfall amounts forecast at 15-20 l/m2.

Due to soil saturation from recent rainfall, rivers in the western part of the country could react with a possible increase in their water level. Potential increases are expected late at night and tomorrow morning on the Treska River, the Crna River, watercourses from the upper Vardar River basin, and rivers originating from the Solunska Glava mountain range.

Short-term rainfall of moderate intensity could cause a rapid increase in the water level of smaller rivers and ravines in the western part of the country, specifically those from Shar Planina and the Jakupica mountain (Solunska Glava massif).

More abundant rainfall is possible in urban areas like Tetovo and the western part of Skopje, requiring increased caution.

In contrast, significant increases in water levels are not expected in the eastern part of the country during the day.

The CMC advises caution when moving along rivers and ravines during the evening and night hours.
