Four individuals from Gevgelija have been criminally charged with migrant smuggling, according to the Ministry of Interior. The defendants are identified as D.T. (32), U.K. (24), L.A., and V.T. (50).
The charges stem from an incident on April 17, 2025, in the Gevgelija area. D.T. allegedly accepted four migrants, including a child from China, and then handed them over to U.K.
L.A., the mother of D.T., is accused of providing information about police patrol movements via telephone to facilitate the smuggling operation. This was allegedly done to help them avoid detection.
Following a hearing, a Judge of Preliminary Procedure from the Basic Criminal Court Skopje ordered a 30-day detention for D.T. and U.K. L.A. was placed under house arrest for 30 days.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the investigation is ongoing to fully clarify all aspects of the case.
