Court Rejects Million Euro Guarantee for Suspect in Money Laundering Case

The Criminal Court in Skopje has rejected the proposal to release Asmir Jahoski, suspected of money laundering, from custody in exchange for a one million euro guarantee. The decision was made by the Criminal Council of the Department for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption after reviewing the case files.

The court stated that despite the positive opinion of the public prosecutor, circumstances still exist that warrant Jahoski’s detention. These circumstances include the possibility that he may obstruct the investigation by influencing witnesses or hiding, falsifying, or destroying evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and further evidence is still being collected.

Jahoski is one of 13 individuals and one company under investigation for alleged abuses and money laundering related to the procurement of substandard fuel oil for state power plants.

Parties involved have the right to appeal the decision to the Appellate Court Skopje within three days of receiving the notice.
