Arben Taravari, Minister of Health and leader of the Alliance for Albanians, stated that the party is not rushing into any political decisions, despite choosing to run independently in the upcoming local elections. Taravari emphasized that their decision to contest the elections separately from the “Vredi” coalition does not automatically mean they will leave the Government.
Taravari clarified that the decision to remain in the Government ultimately rests with the Prime Minister. He stated that if the Prime Minister believes the Alliance for Albanians is no longer needed, they would accept that decision. Taravari made these comments during a visit to the Kumanovo hospital, emphasizing the need for rationality and careful consideration in the current political climate.
According to Taravari, reactions to the Alliance for Albanians’ separation from the “Vredi” coalition for the local elections are primarily emotional. He noted that his party offered “Vredi” a similar arrangement to the one ZNAM has with VMRO, which involves running separate councilor lists with mutual political support. He added that the party will consider its options for mayoral candidates if “Vredi” remains firm in its current stance.
In contrast to Taravari’s position, Izet Mejiti, the Minister of Environment and a coalition partner, believes that the Alliance for Albanians should leave the Government entirely, given their departure from “Vredi” and their potential negotiations with DUI. Mejiti sees “Vredi” as evolving into a political party and argues that the Alliance for Albanians cannot simultaneously be part of the Government and negotiate with DUI.
