Direct flights between Skopje and Barcelona, as well as Skopje and Lyon, have commenced, marking the initial outcomes of air transport policies. The government’s subsidy policy aims to connect Skopje directly to Paris via a new Skopje-Paris (Orly Airport) route and has reintroduced the Skopje-Amsterdam line after 12 years.
In addition, a new airline, Ohrid-Istanbul was introduced. Furthermore, a charter flight from Germany will bring at least 200 tourists to Macedonia daily.
According to VMRO-DPMNE, the government’s focus is on developing air transport and fostering increased competition at domestic airports. Negotiations are in progress to attract a dozen new airlines to further enhance travel options. Agreements have also been signed for the introduction of routes like Ohrid – Basel Mulhouse, Skopje – Dubai, and Skopje – Stuttgart.
Two additional airlines from Skopje International Airport have been confirmed: Skopje – Geneva, scheduled to begin operations on November 3, 2025, and Skopje-Paris (Orly Airport). These initiatives are intended to improve the quality of life for citizens by providing more competitive travel conditions and new destinations.
