North Macedonia and Turkey have agreed to intensify cooperation in tax policy and combating financial crime. This agreement was reached during a meeting between North Macedonia’s Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, and Turkey’s Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance of Turkey, included discussions on direct information exchange regarding tax risks. The tax administrations of both countries will collaborate on joint tax controls and monitoring activities related to taxpayers operating in both nations.
Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska highlighted the crucial role of North Macedonia’s Public Revenue Office in budget revenue collection. She stressed the importance of measures aimed at enhancing the efficiency of tax revenue collection and the adoption of international best practices.
Future cooperation between North Macedonia’s Financial Police Administration and Turkey’s Department for Financial Crime Investigations will focus on sharing knowledge and experiences. Both parties acknowledged the significance of rapid data and information exchange, as well as building institutional capacity through shared expertise.
The ministers also exchanged perspectives on the current global economic landscape and the strategies implemented to address related challenges.
As part of her working visit to Turkey, Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska also met with Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and is scheduled to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum. The delegation accompanying the Minister includes State Secretary Andriana Matlioska, Head of Cabinet Katerina Antovska, and the directors of the Public Revenue Office, the Customs Administration, and the Financial Police Administration.
