SDSM MP Questions Government’s Economic Policies and Cost of Living Standards

SDSM MP Borche Cvetkov criticized the government’s economic policies, citing economic stagnation and a decline in living standards. Speaking at a parliamentary session, Cvetkov questioned Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi about the calculation of the “average basket” of goods and the effectiveness of government measures.

Cvetkov stated that the current economic situation reflects a “stuck economy” and a “ruined standard of living,” accusing the government of failing to deliver on its promises and demonstrating “total disinterest” and “total incompetence” in creating effective economic policies. He argued that the government’s measures have worsened the lives of citizens.

Cvetkov pointed to the rising cost of the trade union basket, noting that citizens now need 836 denars more than in March to cover basic needs. He stated that a family of four requires a total budget of 62,700 denars to survive the month. He claimed that even three minimum wages are insufficient to cover basic living expenses.

Cvetkov also criticized the government’s plan to introduce a new calculation for basic needs under the name “average basket,” suggesting it is unrealistic to base calculations on a family of three. He asked Durmishi if the government would abandon the new calculation and instead increase the minimum wage to 30,000 denars.
