A family of four in North Macedonia now requires at least 62,700 denars a month to cover basic needs, a record high according to the trade union’s minimum basket. This is due to the rising cost of living coupled with stagnant wages, according to the opposition party SDSM.
SDSM reports that the trade union’s minimum basket has increased by 836 denars. Food and beverages alone account for more than a third of this total.
SDSM accuses the current government of economic mismanagement and indifference to the well-being of its citizens, alleging they are more concerned with personal gain. The party claims that citizens are facing difficult choices between buying food, paying bills, and seeking medical care.
SDSM describes the situation as a “systemic impoverishment” resulting from the government’s failed economic policies. The party vows to continue highlighting the government’s perceived economic failures and to advocate for solutions to alleviate the crisis.
