SDSM: Under the Current Government, Workers Have No Peace Even on Holidays

The opposition party SDSM has accused the VMRO-DPMNE government of failing to pay salaries to numerous public sector workers before the Easter holiday, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and unable to meet their basic needs. According to SDSM, this action violates the law requiring salaries to be paid by the 15th of the month.

Kristina Kostova, vice president of SDSM, stated that cultural workers, employees in Social Work Centers, workers in the State Labor Inspectorate, the State Market Inspectorate, and the Ministry of Economy have not received their pay.

Kostova argued that the government’s actions demonstrate a disregard for the well-being of citizens and that a salary is a legally guaranteed right, not a reward. She criticized the government’s priorities, suggesting they prioritize luxuries over fulfilling their obligations to workers.

The SDSM vice president also highlighted the broader economic challenges faced by workers, including rising prices and bills, and the government’s rejection of requests for salary increases. She stated that the Macedonian worker has the lowest salaries in the region. The party demands immediate payment of salaries to employees in the public sector.
