More than 3,000 culture workers in North Macedonia have not received their March salaries as Easter approaches, drawing sharp criticism from the Levica party. The party accuses the government, particularly the Ministry of Culture, of negligence and inaction.
Levica asserts that this situation, which has recurred for the past four years, highlights a disregard for cultural workers and the nation’s cultural identity. The party claims that the Ministry of Culture is operating without proper leadership, while another ministry is allegedly awaiting instructions from higher authorities before taking action.
The party further states the failure to pay salaries is especially egregious following planned protests by the Culture Union, which were suspended due to a memorandum from the Ministry of Culture. Levica characterizes the government’s attitude as hypocritical and indifferent to the representatives of the people and the state.
Levica is urging all relevant stakeholders and ministries to meet their legal obligations and ensure that culture workers are not left without financial resources during the holiday season. The party emphasizes the importance of supporting cultural workers and preventing them from facing hardship.
