North Macedonia and Kosovo Launch Joint Border Checks at Blace-Elez Han

The “One Stop Shop” system for joint border checks has officially been launched at the Blace-Elez Han border crossing between North Macedonia and Kosovo. This initiative aims to streamline border crossing procedures, reduce wait times, and foster stronger economic and social ties between the two countries.

The launch ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Prime Ministers of North Macedonia and Kosovo, Hristijan Mickoski and Albin Kurti, respectively, as well as the Ministers of Interior from both nations, Panče Toškovski and Xelal Sveçla.

Minister Toškovski emphasized the importance of improving the quality of life for citizens through such initiatives. He highlighted that the new system marks the beginning of a new era characterized by faster goods transportation, increased trade, enhanced tourism, and strengthened friendships.

The “One Stop Shop” system is a result of an agreement between the two governments and a protocol that outlines border and customs control procedures, infrastructure requirements, data exchange protocols, and cost-sharing arrangements. Minister Toškovski explained that the core objective is to facilitate faster, simpler, and safer border crossings.

For travelers, this translates to a single check instead of two, leading to shorter wait times and an improved overall experience. For border services, it means more efficient operations, better coordination, and a stronger stance against illegal activities.

Toškovski noted that the Blace-Elez Han border crossing is one of the busiest in North Macedonia, serving over four million passengers annually. He believes that the implementation of the joint border checks will unlock a new chapter of connectivity, fostering faster transport, more trade, increased tourism, and stronger relationships between North Macedonia and Kosovo.
