Green Human City Announces Protest Over Toranica Mine Pollution

Green Human City (ZHG) has announced a protest march scheduled for Saturday at 12:30 PM in front of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning. The demonstration is a response to the alleged inaction regarding toxic material leakage from the Toranica mine.

According to ZHG, the protest is triggered by the lack of institutional response to their demands concerning the pollution caused by the Toranica mine. They also criticized a statement from the acting director of the State Environmental Inspectorate, Ivana Ginovska, who reportedly said inspectors did not collect samples because the environmental incident was already apparent.

ZHG claims that the situation reveals “unforgivable institutional failures” and are demanding accountability from responsible officials.

The organization extends its appeal to all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliation or background, emphasizing that the pollution affects everyone’s health, regardless of their social status.

ZHG has been protesting for their causes for almost 15 years, regardless of who is in power, and is now directing its message towards members of the ruling parties, warning them that party affiliation will not protect them from the health consequences of the pollution.

The organization urges party members to speak out against those endangering lives for personal gain and to demand accountability from anyone suspected of covering up the poisoning from Toranica. They highlight the threat posed to crops and livestock irrigated with water from the Kriva Reka and Toranicka River.

ZHG concludes by stating that the protest aims to demand responsibility, transparency, and urgent measures to protect both public health and the environment. They state they will bring their message directly to the institutions if they are blocked on social media, reminding them of their duty to serve the public.
