Following a social media post about a slaughterhouse in Strumica releasing blood into a river, the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) conducted an immediate inspection and discovered the operator was not following legal guidelines for disposing of by-products.
The slaughterhouse received a fine of two thousand euros (in denar equivalent), and the responsible individual within the company was fined 400 euros (in denar equivalent).
The FVA has mandated that the slaughterhouse adhere to legal procedures for removing animal by-products of category 3, specifically blood from slaughtered animals without disease symptoms. The agency stated that blood, classified as a category 3 by-product, must be separated and collected in a designated area before removal, as required by relevant laws.
