VMRO-DPMNE is criticizing SDS, stating that the party incurred substantial debt during its governance, leaving a legacy of financial instability. They accuse SDS of now questioning 137 million euros allocated to repaying debts that SDS themselves created.
According to VMRO-DPMNE, the 137 million euros in question represents a refinancing of existing loans secured by SDS, not new debt. They highlight that during SDS’s tenure (2017–2024), the national debt surged from 47% to over 65% of GDP, with limited tangible results beyond minor projects and promotional materials.
VMRO-DPMNE questions the whereabouts of funds obtained through 1.2 billion euros in debt in 2020 and Eurobonds issued in 2018, 2020, and 2021. They also challenge SDS’s claims of debt reduction, pointing out an actual increase of over 3 billion euros during their time in office.
VMRO-DPMNE asserts that the current government is burdened with paying interest on debts incurred by SDSM, while simultaneously working to stabilize the budget without raising taxes, restore investor confidence, and prioritize capital projects. They contrast this with what they describe as SDS’s legacy of high poverty, youth emigration, and a budget heavily burdened by debt repayment and salaries.
