President Trump stated that there is significant interest from various nations, including China, following the announcement of a 90-day suspension of reciprocal tariffs, excluding China, where tariffs will rise to 125 percent.
According to Trump, China desires a deal but is uncertain how to proceed, citing their pride and President Xi’s pride as factors influencing their approach. He believes they are in the process of understanding the situation and are interested in reaching an agreement.
The US initially raised tariffs on China to 104 percent, prompting China to respond with an 84 percent tariff on US imports.
The 90-day tariff pause does not apply to China, where tariffs have instead been increased to 125 percent. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent attributed this increase to China’s insistence on escalating the situation, referring to China’s actions as self-defeating.
