Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has called for a review of the work of a judge in Tetovo following a controversial sentencing in a fatal traffic case. The case involves a driver who fatally struck 22-year-old Teodora Ristevska three years ago and was sentenced to two years in prison. Mickoski stated that the verdict is a failure of the system and not justice.
Mickoski expressed his disappointment and emphasized the need for accountability, stating that the public was horrified by the case. He highlighted the initial trial in November 2023, where the perpetrator was sentenced to three years and six months in prison after admitting guilt. However, the Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to two years, which led to the Supreme Court overturning both verdicts and ordering a retrial.
Mickoski publicly questioned whether justice had been served and called on the Judicial Council to review the judge’s work and the verdict. He emphasized that this is not a political issue but a fight for truth, responsibility, and justice.
The Prime Minister assured that this case would not be closed without accountability and promised to personally follow the case to ensure justice is served. He stated that those who abused their power or prioritized their interests over the safety of citizens will face justice.
