Capitation Point Increase for Primary Care Physicians Announced

The government will raise the capitation point for primary care physicians in general medicine, gynecology, and dentistry, effective April 2025. This decision, announced at a joint press conference by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Minister of Health Arben Taravari, signifies a considerable investment in primary healthcare.

The capitation point for general medicine and gynecology will rise from 75 to 100 denars, while for dentistry, it will increase from 61 to 75 denars. These increases represent a 33 percent and 23 percent rise, respectively.

Prime Minister Mickoski highlighted the undervaluation of primary health care, noting a decline in the number of clinics in 2024 compared to 2023, with 34 fewer general medicine clinics and 24 fewer dental clinics. He emphasized that the state allocates approximately 4.5 billion denars for primary care physicians, gynecologists, and dentists, with an additional 550 million denars (over 9 million euros) dedicated to this increase.

Mickoski stated that since 2015, the capitation for general medicine and gynecology has doubled from 50 to 100 denars, while dentistry has seen a 114 percent increase from 35 to 75 denars. This increase demonstrates the commitment to improving the status of primary care physicians and providing better quality health care for all citizens. The prime minister also noted a particular decrease in clinics in rural and smaller areas, for which special measures were adopted in January. The increase follows several years of stagnation from 2019-2022 when the point was 63 denars and 48 denars.
