The Alliance for Albanians of Arben Taravari has called for independent and transparent investigations into the tragedy in Kochani and the reopening of investigations into previous tragedies.
The party adopted a resolution at a recent meeting outlining several requirements. These include a full and independent investigation into the Kochani tragedy, led by competent institutions free from political influence, with regular public updates. The resolution also demands the reopening of investigations into the Durmo Tours, Besa Trans, and Tetovo modular hospital tragedies, in which 135 citizens died.
The Alliance for Albanians is seeking clear identification and determination of individual and institutional responsibility through in-depth analysis of systemic failures, addressing negligence, incompetence, and corruption. The party also emphasized the need to strengthen transparency and accountability through the publication of inspection procedures, control reports, and regular data sharing with the public.
Further demands include a detailed check of the property and interests of responsible officials and inspectors to detect conflicts of interest or corrupt connections, and an extraordinary supervision of high-risk facilities in various sectors, adhering to international safety standards. The party also calls for an immediate reform of penal policy to ensure fair, strict, and enforceable sanctions for those contributing to such tragedies through actions or omissions. Immediate and full implementation of anti-corruption recommendations is also required.
The Alliance for Albanians emphasizes that the Kochani tragedy should serve as a turning point in building a new culture of responsibility, security, and the rule of law.
