A member of Parliament has accused the mayor of Kriva Palanka of falsely claiming that cyanide levels in the city’s water were dangerously high in order to create panic and influence voters ahead of elections.
Emil Spasovski, an MP from VMRO-DPMNE, stated at a press conference that Mayor Sashko Mitovski knowingly misled citizens about the extent of cyanide contamination. Spasovski cited analyses from the State Environmental Inspectorate that reportedly contradict Mitovski’s claims and expose an attempt at manipulation.
Spasovski criticized the mayor for exploiting public concerns about water and soil safety for political gain. He urged the Public Prosecutor’s Office to initiate criminal proceedings against Mitovski for spreading panic among the populace.
Spasovski emphasized that Mitovski’s position as a public official could lend credibility to his false statements, potentially amplifying fear. He believes this factor, along with the actual impact of the panic caused by Mitovski, should be considered by the Public Prosecutor’s Office when considering a criminal complaint.
