Government Focuses on Public Administration Reform for Efficiency and Meritocracy

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has announced a comprehensive reform of the public administration system, emphasizing efficiency, meritocracy, and service to citizens. The government aims to eliminate unproductive practices, promote professionalism, and leverage digitalization to improve service delivery.

Mickoski highlighted the need to address weaknesses, partisanship, inefficiency, and insufficient competence within the public administration. The focus will be on ensuring that employees are productive and that a merit-based system replaces political influence in employment and promotions.

The reform includes the introduction of transparent selection criteria, testing, and continuous evaluation to ensure that only the most qualified individuals are part of the institutions. Ethical awareness and accountability mechanisms will also be strengthened.

Digitalization is a key component of the reform, with investments in digital tools to reduce processing times, eliminate unnecessary steps, and increase overall efficiency. The government also aims to improve working conditions, offer fair wages, and provide opportunities for advancement based on merit to motivate public officials.

Mickoski stressed that these changes are essential for creating a modern, European state with a public administration that serves citizens effectively.
