The National Bank hosted a working meeting with Italian officials to exchange experiences and investigative techniques on combating counterfeit money, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening capacities in this area according to European standards. International cooperation is crucial for addressing counterfeiting, and collaboration between the two central banks will continue to grow through various channels.
The meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Interior’s Department for Financial Crime, and featured a presentation by the National Bank’s Directorate for Treasury Operations on legal regulations, institutional structure, and the anti-counterfeiting system, along with the protective elements of the denar.
The National Bank, as the sole authorized institution, provides ongoing support through mandatory training for employees in credit institutions and cash centers on verifying the authenticity of money in circulation, plus specialized training for police, customs officials, and experts from other institutions involved in preventing and combating counterfeit currency.
Participants emphasized that anti-counterfeiting measures are essential for the integrity and stability of the domestic economy and financial system, as well as protecting the financial interests of other countries whose currencies are used within the payment system.
The visit occurred as part of the “Pericles IV” project (2021-2027), which funds staff exchanges, seminars, training, and studies for law enforcement, judicial authorities, banks, and other institutions involved in combating Euro counterfeiting in various countries.
