The Ministry of the Interior has filed a criminal complaint against Angel Samarakov, a member of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s security detail from Veles, for allegedly trading information and extorting money.
The government emphasizes that the fight against crime is non-selective and that the suspect’s position as a member of the prime minister’s security detail is an added reason to act strictly and according to the law.
On March 30, 2025, police officers from the Department of Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office GOKK, conducted a coordinated police action and carried out investigative actions to search homes, vehicles, and persons in the area of SVR Veles, after receiving information about a potential crime of “revealing an official secret” under Article 360 of the Criminal Code.
During the police action, A.S. and B.K. were found in a “BMW” vehicle in a parking lot in front of a hotel in Veles. A.S. is a police officer in the Department for the Protection of Certain Persons and Objects. A search of the vehicle revealed a backpack with official materials from the Ministry of the Interior. Mobile phones were confiscated from both individuals, and they were subsequently taken into custody.
Additional searches were carried out at several locations as part of the action, resulting in the discovery and seizure of electronic devices, official documents, and other items relevant to the investigation.
The Department of Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards determined that the police officer acted contrary to the legal and by-laws of the Ministry of the Interior by unauthorizedly possessing official materials and disclosing them to third parties outside the ministry, constituting a crime under Article 360 of the Criminal Code.
The Department of Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards will file a criminal complaint against A. S. for the crime of “revealing an official secret” under Article 360 of the Criminal Code to the Public Prosecutor’s Office GOKK on March 31, 2025.
