The City of Skopje commemorated the 62nd anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake that devastated the capital on July 26, 1963. A delegation led by Mayor Danela Arsovska paid tribute to the victims.
The earthquake, which occurred 62 years ago, claimed over a thousand lives and left Skopje in ruins. The city remembers the day as one that forever changed its face.
“This day evokes a feeling of sadness, but it will always be remembered for the humanity of all those who helped in the most difficult moments,” said the City of Skopje in a statement.
An exhibition titled “Skopje During and After the Earthquake” is scheduled to open at the Museum of the City of Skopje tonight at 8:00 PM as part of the commemoration. The exhibition aims to reflect on the city’s experiences during and after the disaster.
