Assembly Approves Law on Amendments to Customs Tariffs

The Assembly has adopted a law amending the Law on Customs Tariffs, paving the way for the government’s plan to reduce customs duties on key raw materials and supplies for domestic industry and the energy sector. This decision includes a reduction of up to 50% in customs rates applicable in the EU and the complete abolition of customs duties on imports of goods originating from the USA.

Ljupcho Prendzov, MP, stated that these measures are expected to have several positive effects, including reduced production costs, improved competitiveness for domestic companies in foreign markets, and the encouragement of new investments and job creation.

The abolition of customs duties for goods from the United States is considered not only a commercial move but also a strategic and diplomatic one. It signals an increased readiness for deeper economic cooperation with strategic partners and support for free and fair trade.

According to Prendzov, the legal amendment will enhance the competitiveness of Macedonian companies, decrease production prices, and increase exports, ultimately contributing to the growth of the national economy.
