Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski is facing criticism from SDSM President Venko Filipche regarding alleged unfulfilled promises related to foreign policy and European integration. Filipche accused Mickoski of inconsistency and political manipulation of the European agenda during a parliamentary question session.
Filipche reminded Mickoski of his past statements about changing the Negotiating Framework with the European Union. According to Filipche, Mickoski had suggested seeking a solution with the new Bulgarian government and proposed constitutional amendments with deferred effect. Filipche pointed out that Mickoski later denied requesting changes to the Negotiating Framework, stating that their position remained constitutional amendments with deferred effect as a guarantee against new conditions.
Filipche also criticized Mickoski for allegedly abandoning a planned written address to the European Union and for a missed opportunity to meet with the Bulgarian Prime Minister at the NATO Summit in The Hague. Filipche expressed concern that these actions were creating false hope among citizens regarding improved positions in the negotiations with the EU.
Mickoski has yet to respond publicly to Filipche’s accusations. The exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions surrounding North Macedonia’s path towards European Union membership.
