A large fire broke out this afternoon on the shore of Lake Prespa near the village of Perovo, engulfing a significant area of reeds and rapidly spreading due to strong winds. The blaze initially threatened the village, prompting an urgent response from firefighters and local residents.

Director of the Crisis Management Center (CMC), Stojanche Angelov, confirmed that the fire no longer poses an immediate threat to Perovo, thanks to the combined efforts of firefighters from Resen and supportive locals. Their quick action helped contain the fire’s advance.

To further combat the blaze, a CMC “air tractor” was deployed, and a second one is expected to join shortly. These aircraft are crucial in cutting off the fire’s path and supporting ground crews in gaining complete control over the challenging situation.

Angelov emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that the fire had threatened several villages in the area.
