DUI has voiced strong concerns regarding the potential abolition of the Law on the Use of Languages by the Constitutional Court. The party alleges that the current government is systematically marginalizing the Albanian language within the public sphere through various institutional actions.
DUI highlights the dysfunctional state of the Inspectorate for the Implementation of the Law on the Use of Languages. They claim the Inspectorate’s autonomy has been undermined, its operations effectively paralyzed, and its inspectors left without salaries for six months and lacking essential resources like official vehicles.
The party further alleges that the Inspectorate’s director, appointed by the government, has been misusing official vehicles for personal gain, while the institution itself is failing to function properly. DUI criticizes the Minister of Political System’s statement that the director will be replaced not for incompetence, but as a punitive measure. They view this as a blatant display of institutional pressure and disrespect towards the official use of the Albanian language.
DUI is urging all Albanian social stakeholders to resist these perceived systemic threats against the Albanian language. The party emphasizes that the Albanian language is a constitutional right and a fundamental aspect of the Ohrid Agreement, not merely a political favor. DUI also calls on remaining members of VLEN within the government to demonstrate accountability by actively opposing these threats.
