Wilders Rejects Motion to Develop Asylum Plans, Prefers Implementation

Geert Wilders rejected a motion to further develop his ten-point asylum plan, stating his preference for immediate implementation instead of further deliberation. Wilders’ decision highlights the core reason for the coalition’s collapse: his frustration with perceived delays and emphasis on the rule of law.

The motion, proposed by Thierry Baudet, sought to have the caretaker cabinet refine Wilders’ proposals into realistic, concrete measures. Baudet believed he had support from Dilan Yesilgöz (VVD), Nicolien van Vroonhoven (NSC), and Caroline van der Plas (BBB), who had previously expressed openness to Wilders’ asylum plans.

However, Wilders countered that further development would only lead to inaction and reiterated his desire to return to campaign mode without restrictions. He views his plan as ready for immediate implementation and intends to make it a central part of the PVV election program.

Yesilgöz, Van Vroonhoven, and Van der Plas, while recognizing legal and practical challenges in Wilders’ plan, are determined to avoid appearing unwilling to cooperate on stricter asylum policies. They face the challenge of addressing the issue without ceding ground to Wilders, who remains the dominant figure on the topic of asylum and migration.

Wilders’ opponents are wary of directly challenging him on asylum, given his proven ability to mobilize voters on the right flank. They may attempt to shift the focus to other issues, but face a Wilders motivated by a desire for revenge after the fall of the cabinet.
