Dilan Yesilgöz, leader of the VVD party, has stated that she will not work with Geert Wilders and his PVV party again, citing a lack of trustworthiness and the need for “adult leadership” in the Netherlands. This announcement comes after the collapse of the Dutch cabinet, which was triggered by Wilders withdrawing support over disagreements on immigration policy.
Yesilgöz emphasized that Wilders is “an unbelievably untrustworthy partner,” and this decision was made after consulting with numerous VVD members, none of whom supported giving Wilders another opportunity. The VVD, PVV, and GroenLinks-PvdA are currently in a close race in opinion polls leading up to the general election on October 29.
While Yesilgöz has ruled out working with Wilders, she has not yet indicated which parties she is willing to collaborate with in the future. The political landscape remains uncertain as the election approaches.
