Train Services Disrupted in Groningen Due to Vandalism

Train services to and from Groningen Europapark faced disruptions over the weekend after vandals placed objects on the tracks. These incidents caused delays and forced trains to come to an abrupt halt.

On Sunday afternoon, a sprinter train was brought to a standstill when it encountered a bicycle placed directly on the tracks. Police were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the delay was limited to approximately ten minutes.

The previous night, Saturday, another sprinter train traveling from Meppel to Groningen Europapark collided with wooden planks that had been deliberately placed on the tracks. This incident resulted in a more significant delay, lasting around 30 minutes.

It’s important to note that rail travel to and from Groningen has already been subject to disruptions since May 10, due to the ongoing reconstruction of the city’s central station. These pre-existing disruptions are expected to continue until at least July 12.
