Red Line Protest Against Israeli Policy Held in The Hague

Thousands of protesters, clad in red, marched in The Hague on Saturday to demonstrate against Israeli policy. The demonstration, a collaborative effort of over ninety aid organizations, including Oxfam Novib, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, PAX, Save the Children, and The Rights Forum, aimed to draw a ‘red line’ symbolizing what they perceive as Israel’s transgressions.

The march began on the Malieveld around 1:30 PM, with demonstrators proceeding in a long procession to the Peace Palace, home of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations.

Michiel Servaes, director of Oxfam and one of the initiators, stated that “the silent majority is mobilizing” and that they are “slowly emerging” from a period of paralysis caused by the political climate and framing of those who speak out about Gaza.

The organizers had invited Prime Minister Schoof to address the crowd at the Malieveld, but he did not respond.

Authorities have not released an official estimate of the crowd size, but trains to The Hague were reported to be very full in the early afternoon. A previous protest four weeks prior drew an estimated 100,000 participants.
