A series of disturbing incidents involving packages containing animal parts, specifically animal eyes, were sent to Ukrainian embassies and consulates across Europe in December 2022. These acts of intimidation targeted diplomatic missions in multiple countries, raising concerns about the safety and security of Ukrainian representatives abroad.

The incidents began to surface in December 2022. The Ukrainian embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, received a particularly gruesome package containing animal eyes and stained with blood. This alarming discovery prompted immediate investigation and heightened security measures at the embassy.

Similar packages were also sent to other Ukrainian diplomatic facilities. Four additional Ukrainian embassies and three consulates were targeted with similar mailings. While the contents were consistent in their disturbing nature, the specific details varied slightly from country to country.

In Spain, for example, the package sent to the Ukrainian embassy contained a sheep’s eye. Authorities in other affected countries have chosen not to disclose the specific type of animal eyes included in the packages.
