Over 90 individuals were arrested in Rotterdam on Wednesday evening following a pro-Palestine demonstration outside the city hall. The arrests occurred after demonstrators defied police orders to disperse.
Authorities issued multiple warnings to the protesters before initiating the arrests. One individual was also taken into custody for assaulting a police officer during the incident.
The demonstration was organized to protest against the cargo company Maersk and the Rotterdam port authority. Protesters allege that these entities are involved in shipping spare parts for F-35 fighter jets to Israel.
The scheduled end time for the protest was 7:30 pm. However, a number of protesters remained at the location past the designated time.
Rotterdam’s mayor, Carola Schouten, officially ordered the demonstration to end at 8 pm. Police then proceeded to arrest those who refused to comply with the order to leave the area.
Earlier in the week, Maersk’s Rotterdam headquarters were vandalized with graffiti related to the same accusations.
Maersk has refuted the claims made by the protesters, stating that they ship parts to and from various producers but do not deliver parts, weapons, or ammunition to the Israeli defense ministry.
