Researchers at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam have unveiled a groundbreaking ultrasound method for monitoring brain activity in real-time during everyday tasks. This innovation overcomes the limitations of traditional brain scanners, which require patients to remain stationary.

The new technique utilizes a thin plastic skull implant to facilitate effective penetration of ultrasound waves, as regular skulls are too dense. This allows for high-precision monitoring of brain activity and blood flow.

The technology holds significant promise for enhancing the safety and efficacy of brain surgery, and it also allows for improved monitoring of conditions like brain tumors.

Developed in collaboration with a company in Delft, the device captures an impressive ten to twenty thousand images per second.
