New Dutch Cabinet Appointments Announced Following Resignation

The Dutch Council of Ministers will convene with a full complement of members this Friday, following recent resignations and subsequent reshuffling of government posts.

Several key positions have been filled, including those related to Asylum and Migration, Foreign Trade, Health, Welfare and Sport, Economic Affairs, and Infrastructure. These appointments come as the current cabinet serves in a caretaker capacity, having submitted its resignation ahead of elections scheduled for October 29.

Caspar Veldkamp (NSC) will assume part of the Foreign Trade portfolio, previously held by Reinette Klever (PVV). Diplomat Hanneke Boerma, also from NSC, will take on the other part of the portfolio.

Daniëlle Jansen (NSC) is set to succeed Fleur Agema at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). Jansen, who entered the Lower House in 2023, brings her experience managing the healthcare portfolio.

Vincent Karremans (VVD) will be promoted from State Secretary for Youth, Prevention and Sport to Minister of Economic Affairs. Judith Tielen (VVD) will fill his previous role.

Thierry Aartsen (VVD) will become State Secretary for Infrastructure. Robert Tieman (BBB) will take over the Ministry of Infrastructure, succeeding Barry Madlener (PVV).

Nicky Pouw-Verweij (BBB) marks a political comeback as she is appointed State Secretary for Long-Term Care. Despite not being elected as a Member of Parliament in 2023, she has remained active as a policy officer for the party.

All newly appointed ministers will serve in a caretaker role as the cabinet prepares for the upcoming elections and the 2026 budget. Their tenure could potentially extend beyond the expected four months, given the typical duration of cabinet formations in the Netherlands.
