Hila Noorzai to Host New Talk Show and Reflects on Career Journey

Hila Noorzai, a presenter who once resided in an asylum seeker center in Leidschendam before moving to Heerlen, will host a four-day talk show called “Vier dagen op rij” (Four Days in a Row) on NPO 1, starting June 2nd. The show will air at 7:05 PM each evening. Additionally, Noorzai hosts the online version of “Wie is de Mol?” (Who is the Mole?) featuring unknown Dutch participants and currently resides in Amsterdam with her husband.

Noorzai emphasizes that the program will prioritize meaningful discussions over elaborate theatrics, focusing on subjects close to her heart, particularly injustice. She cites honor killings as an example of an important topic she hopes to explore with those directly affected.

While open to hosting a longer-term talk show, she acknowledges the saturated landscape and the lack of immediate plans with Avrotros. Her primary focus is on making the most of this four-day opportunity.

Reflecting on her personal journey, Noorzai recalls fleeing Afghanistan with her parents at six months old and spending time in an asylum center. She acknowledges that her parents, focused on survival, did not dwell on emotions. Noorzai says, that she had to learn to cry in therapy. She learned to control her emotions while presenting, prioritizing the comfort and stories of her interviewees.

Despite never having visited Afghanistan, Noorzai recognizes the influence of her Afghan heritage, citing her pragmatism and resilience. She balances this with Dutch level-headedness, sometimes feeling like a “human wrecking ball” compared to her refined Afghan relatives.

She describes television as a “magical medium” with significant reach and influence, while also appreciating the valuable experience gained from her radio career, including her early work as a night DJ for Qmusic. Noorzai has no intention of doing duo presentations with a man.

Having participated in game shows like “Wie is de Mol?” and “The Perfect Picture on Tour,” Noorzai realized that being a participant is not for her. Her preference lies in presenting. She had a keen interest in presenting since high school, recognizing her passion for the stage.

Noorzai underscores the importance of asking for opportunities and advocating for oneself, particularly for young women. She encourages women to not be afraid of rejection. She attributes her success to proactive self-promotion and a willingness to learn from past rejections.

Noorzai states that she is a planner. She sets annual goals. Noorzai emphasizes her current satisfaction and stability, noting that her parents, who once worried about her career choice, are now proud of her achievements. She has a permanent contract with Avrotros.
