Haribo Cola Sweets in the Netherlands Found to Contain Cannabis

Dutch authorities have issued a nationwide warning against consuming specific Haribo Happy Cola F!ZZ sweets after traces of cannabis were discovered in several packages. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) is investigating after multiple reports surfaced of individuals, including children, falling ill after eating the sweets.

The affected product is the one-kilo bag of Happy Cola F!ZZ with a use-by date of January 2026. The contamination appears to be limited to the eastern region of the Netherlands, but the NVWA is advising consumers across the country to avoid eating these sweets as a precaution.

A family from Twente first alerted the police after several children experienced adverse reactions. Subsequent testing by the NVWA confirmed the presence of cannabis in three bags purchased from local shops.

The police are currently investigating the extent of the illnesses and how the cannabis ended up in the sweets. The Dutch forensic institute NFI is analyzing the sweets to determine the type of cannabis and whether any other substances are present.

Haribo has stated that the recall is a precautionary measure. The investigation is currently focused on a limited number of reports and a specific product originating in the east of the country. A similar incident occurred in The Hague in 2023, when six children became ill after consuming sweets containing THC.
