Duran Duran Concert in Amsterdam Receives Mixed Reviews

Duran Duran’s recent performance in Amsterdam at the Ziggo Dome has garnered mixed reactions, with critics pointing to issues in production, musical delivery, and overall impact. The concert, marking the band’s first Dutch performance in seventeen years, took place in a sold-out venue.

The production value of the show was underwhelming, featuring a simple set of lamps and a film screen. The lack of cameras focusing on the band members and projecting them onto side screens left audience members at the back of the venue feeling excluded. The visuals displayed on the screen behind the band were criticized as being sloppy and outdated.

Musically, Duran Duran’s performance also failed to impress some reviewers. Singer Simon Le Bon’s vocal performance was inconsistent, with issues in pitch and volume. While his hoarse singing sound was appreciated in the lower registers and ballads like “Ordinary World,” his falsetto singing was a point of concern.

The concert included covers of “Super Freak” by Rick James and “Evil Woman” by Electric Light Orchestra, which successfully got the audience dancing. However, critics felt that these covers contributed to an overly cozy atmosphere, detracting from the seriousness of the band’s comeback. Ultimately, the performance was deemed below par as a serious return for a band that once held significant cultural relevance.
